In memoriam: Bill Woodruff

In memoriam: Bill Woodruff

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Woodruff, longtime supporter and friend of Indiana Nursery and Landscape Association (INLA). Are thoughts are with Bill’s family and friends.

Owner of Laporte County Nursery, Bill was a stalworth supporter of the INLA, the Indiana Nursery & Endowment Fund (INEF), and the H.W. Gilbert Scholarship Award. Bill initiated having a plaque placed in the Purdue Hort Building to recognize the annual recipients of the H.W. Gilbert Scholarship award winners. INLA continues the tradition of adding the names of the award recipients to the plaque each year as a memorial for Bill’s passion. In addition, Bill’s daughter, Debra Weisman served as President of the INLA/IAN in 1992 and was INLA’s first female President.

Excerpt from his obituary:
William graduated from Purdue University in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. He was also a veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force. William was retired and discharged honorably as a Major. He was the owner of LaPorte County Landscaping Inc. and the LaPorte County Nursery for 50 years. He begrudgingly retired at the age of 87. William was on the Board of Directors for the Indiana Nurseryman’s Association. He made many contributions to the Purdue University West Lafayette Campus and was a proud member of the Purdue Presidents Council.
